The Classics Club is hosting Classics Club Spin #18. We are supposed to choose 20 books from our classics club list and assign numbers to each one. The Classics Club will then choose a number between 1-20, and we are supposed to read that book by the end of August. Since my list is all from my Well Educated Mind Project, which books I plan on reading in order as much as possible, I will choose 20 other classics that I am interested in reading.
- A Room of One’s Own, by Virginia Woolf
- Bluebeard, by Kurt Vonnegut
- Breakfast of Champions, by Kurt Vonnegut
- Discipline and Punish, by Michel Foucault
- A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens
- Master and Commander, by Patrick O’Brian
- The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood, by Howard Pyle
- The Jungle, by Upton Sinclair
- Catch-22, by Joseph Heller
- Far From the Maddening Crowd, by Thomas Hardy
- The Witches of Eastwood, by John Updike
- The Complete Sherlock Holmes, by Arthur Conan Doyle
- The End of the Affair, by Graham Greene
- Lord of the Flies, by William Golding
- Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte
- Gone With the Wind, by Margaret Mitchell
- The Grapes of Wrath, by John Steinbeck
- Rebecca, by Daphne du Maurier
- The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath
- Lolita, by Vladimir Nabokov
Rebecca is appearing on quite a few lists – wonderful book. I really love Patrick O’Brien’s books. I’ve not read the entire series but hope to do that one day.

These are all books I haven’t read, so I’m excited for any of them. But I’ve been wanting to reaf Rebecca for quite a while.

Great choices! I love A Room of One’s Own, Far From the Madding Crowd, and The Bell Jar. Rebecca (as a re-read) also made my spin list this round. Happy reading!

I’m hoping Bell Jar will get picked, so I can review it in Suicide Awareness Month (September).

That would be perfect timing. Fingers crossed it gets picked!

You have some of my favorites here—Lord of the Flies, Grapes of Wrath, Gone With the Wind—so I hope one of those turns up for you when the wheel is spun on August 1st.

I’d be happy with any of those three! 😁

So many great books on your list! I loved Far From the Madding Crowd (my favorite Hardy); Gone with the Wind (long but a surprisingly quick read); Rebecca; and The End of the Affair — there’s an audio version narrated by Colin Firth which is just wonderful. Good luck with your spin pick!

I actually own that Colin Firth audiobook, and am eager to listen to it.

Howard Pyle’s Robin Hood is great, too! That was one of my dad’s favorite books when he was a kid, and I inherited the love of it.

Great List! I’ve seen a few of these books around and on my own list…great minds think alike! Are you hoping for any particular number?

Of these books, I’m hoping for Sylvia Plath, so 19.

So I found Far From the Madding Crowd rather meh during my last ccspin and I’ve tried to read Catch 22 three times with no success – love it to start with but get tired of the humour very quickly as well!
Are you reading the Patrick O’Brian books in order? I read them about 15 yrs ago and adored them – although as with all series, some books were better than others.
Happy spinning on Weds 🙂
