I am considering having a year of Shakespeare next year. Potentially with theme-based trimesters:
Jan – Apr Comedies
May – Aug Histories
Sep – Dec Tragedies
Would anyone be interested in joining? It would be very informal, with trimesterly linkups to post links to your reviews.

Hi Brona! I put a comment on the Classics Club events page and only one person answered. I Tweeted the Classics Club and they didn’t retweet. I just assumed there wasn’t much interest. I can ask Deb, though.

It’s great to see more interest coming this way now Rachel. I spotted your post again on The Novel Challenge page, so I wonder if you’ll get more takers.
My Nov post for the CC is taken up with other stuff, but I will dedicate Dec to a post about this as we have discussed via email. If you find you have enough interest coming in here though and would like to keep it here under your banner, just say so 🙂

I like the idea of it but I already have a couple of long-term projects underway. I would probably want to shake up the categories a bit for my taste, so that I wasn’t reading all the tragedies in a clump, but that’s just me!

I decided to clump the categories together so that people could get away with reading only one book a trimester. But I understand your point.

Shakespeare is always a good thing to read. If you go for it I will likely join you for some of the plays. I would also be curious to read what you think about the plays.

I will join you in a slow pace. I will do it at the same time as the Classic Club. I find Shakespeare very difficult to read, but I guess you have to start somewhere. One book every trimester is probably a good pace for me.

You can read as quickly or slowly as you feel comfortable. I don’t think I’ll get more than one a trimester, but I may try. We’ll see. I have so much to do with my new baby!

A big congratulations on the safe arrival of your new bub. So glad that all has proceeded smoothly so far.
I wrote a big comment last night on my phone before going to bed, but only realised this morning that it didn’t send and I lost it when I tried to refresh the page *sigh me and technology!*
It was mostly about the Shakespeare event and whether or not you would prefer to take full control of the event again and for the CC to back right off from it now that you’ve quite a bit of interest all on your own. We’re happy to go in any direction that works for you – support, co/host or disappear! We certainly wouldn’t want you to feel that we had taken it away from you or that our enthusiasm was too much, too soon or too in your face.
This is your show, tell us how you would like to proceed.

At this point, I’ve got enough interest, that I think I will go ahead with the plan as originally stated. If the Classics Club would like to find two other hosts for the second and third trimester, that would be great, but if you can’t find someone willing, I’m sure I’ll be able to pull it off. So try to find someone, please, but no worries if you can’t. 🙂 Thanks so much for your support!

It is supposed to be a fairly informal project. I am going to TRY to read 4 comedies during the time that I am hosting, but that is not necessary for the other hosts – especially since I’m not sure I’ll even have time for that. Just have an intro post at the beginning of the month where people can put links to their posts, and that’s pretty much it. 🙂

Did you end up finding someone for the histories? If not, I will probably cover Henry IV parts 1 and 2 and Henry VI parts 1-3. But I could do that anyway, and someone else could guide us through Richard II. I based my choices on nonfiction history books I could find on the two Henrys.
